DAY 1 : Mérida or Barinas – Los Llanos – Safari at Sunset

Distance: approx. 250–300 km | 5–7 hours by road

Depart early in the morning from Mérida or Barinas by private vehicle toward the heart of the Venezuelan Llanos. As the road descends from the mountains, the landscape slowly transforms into wide-open savannahs dotted with rivers, cattle ranches, and palm trees.

Upon arrival at a traditional Llanos wildlife lodge or hato, enjoy a welcome lunch and time to relax. In the late afternoon, head out on your first safari drive across the plains. Spot capybaras, caimans, deer, monkeys, and countless birds as the sun sets over the savannah.
